(As you can probably tell from the title of this post in comparison to the posting date of this post, there hasn’t been much of a chance to get things uploaded. Hopefully that will be fixed shortly, and just know that we’re doing the best we can!)
After much waiting and anticipation, it’s finally here! Today marks the start of tour – or rather, today at 4:30pm EST marked the start of tour. Leading up to that time was such a blur. For most people on the team, the week before break seemed to be full of stress and exams, papers, and all kinds of time-consuming demands. Kathy gave us Thursday off of practice so we could get our lives together and prepare for the trip, which was a godsend because I personally don’t think I would have been able to make it to the bus today if that hadn’t happened.
As it was, we all (hopefully) managed to pack for the trip successfully, and now we even have some snazzy luggage tags to prove it! (Shout out to Gwyn’s family, who’s awesome.)
All packed and ready to go, we boarded the bus that would take us to the airport. Several team photos later (sorry I couldn’t track any down), and we were off by 5:30.
Arriving at the airport an hour later and after passing through checkin and security, we [only] had three hours to wait for the plane to take off. Nothing too exciting happened at the airport, so those three hours passed pretty smoothly, with people taking turns watching the carry-ons, reading, and playing games so others could wander and get food.
I always find the days leading up to a trip to be the most stressful, and this one was no different. Right up to the moment I got on the bus, things seemed to be going all too fast sometimes and then dragging by at others, intent on holding me back until the second we left. But the moment we stepped on the plane and we finally got to take in the fact that this was all really happening while we taxied down the runway? That was incredible.
Here’s to the adventure to come and many more interesting and less stressful days ahead!
